The Chester Valley Trail running through Tredyffrin Township is the most heavily used park and trail system in Chester County. As its popularity continues to grow, county officials are reminding residents to stay alert and safe when sharing roads and trails.
The trail crosses several busy roadways in Tredyffrin, including Chesterbrook Boulevard, Cedar Hollow Road, and West Valley Road, where drivers interact with walkers, runners, and cyclists.
To address these challenges, Chester County has launched the “Walk. Ride. Drive. Safe.” campaign — a public awareness effort encouraging everyone to share the road safely.
“We have seen a major increase in the number of people walking and biking since the pandemic started,” said Chester County Commissioners Chair Marian Moskowitz. “It’s positive to see more people using trails and outdoor spaces, but it also means all of us must take extra care.”
County officials report that between 2015 and 2020 there were 521 traffic accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists in Chester County, including 25 fatalities, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
The safety campaign encourages:
- Pedestrians to stay alert, walk facing traffic, and avoid phone distractions.
- Cyclists to remain visible with lights and reflectors and follow traffic rules.
- Drivers to slow down and give walkers and cyclists adequate space when passing.
County officials say the campaign is part of a broader effort to improve transportation safety and expand pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure across the region.
