A Citizen’s Perspective: Racial Bias in Our Criminal Justice System
A Citizen’s Perspective
A Monthly Forum to Discuss Current Issues
Monday June 14
7:30 – 9pm – Virtual Meeting!
Racial Bias In Our Criminal Justice System The history of our criminal justice system is all too closely tied to the enforcement of slavery and the subsequent Black code and Jim Crow laws. How far have we come from those days? Sadly, there is overwhelming evidence that our criminal justice system continues to be racially biased. Racial disparities pervade every step of the criminal justice process, from police stops, searches, arrests, shooting, and other use of force to charging decisions, wrongful convictions, and sentences. And with the proliferation of video recordings, we see evidence of racial bias in our criminal justice system on an all too regular basis. Please join us as we look at racial bias in our criminal justice system and what can and should be done to address it.
Due to COVID-19 social distancing protocol, the meeting will be held virtually. Anyone wishing to attend, please send an email requesting the link to Jerry Henige at jhenige@verizon.net. We will distribute the Zoom link to those who have requested it before the meeting.
