Today, President Joseph R. Biden announced he will suspend his 2024 campaign and not seek re-election. We, the Tredyffrin Township Democrats, honor President Biden for his extraordinary service to our nation and his deep connection to Pennsylvania. As a proud son of Scranton, he has always championed the values and needs of our state. In 2020, he took the helm of a divided and uncertain America, striving to reclaim the soul of its democracy. By 2024, he leaves a more unified and resilient nation, having navigated profound challenges and ushered in remarkable progress.
In the wake of an insurrection, his administration delivered lifesaving economic assistance to millions through the American Rescue Plan and Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal, which directly benefited Pennsylvania by creating jobs and improving our infrastructure. He achieved historic climate protection investments through the Inflation Reduction Act, and implemented student loan forgiveness to make higher education accessible. Additionally, his administration appointed nearly 500 progressive judges who will defend racial, LGBTQ+, reproductive, and voting rights for decades to come.
As we bid farewell to President Biden’s candidacy in the 2024 election, we look forward to an exciting new chapter. The Tredyffrin Township Democrats proudly support the candidate elected at the upcoming 2024 DNC Convention. We will stand by our future candidate to continue the fight for justice, equality, and opportunity championed by President Biden.
Our opponents, led by Donald Trump and his running mate J.D. Vance, have a vision starkly opposed to our values. They aim to undermine our progress, seeking to impose a federal abortion ban, roll back LGBTQ+ and racial rights, erode democratic institutions, and dismantle vital agencies like the EPA and the Department of Education.
At this critical moment, the choice is clear. We must rally behind our next Democratic nominee. As the party of progress, we embody the promise of a more just and inclusive America in the face of extremism. We are confident our next nominee’s leadership will be pivotal in confronting the challenges ahead and safeguarding our progress. Democracy is not promised; it is a privilege we must actively preserve.
