Tredyffrin Easttown School Board Decision Making Process

te school board agenda item 2015feb

Excerpt from TE School Board Meeting Agenda

ACA Update

If you saw the above on a school board meeting agenda, which of the following would you expect to have presented.

  1. Apresentation about changes to healthcare costs and benefits in the  2nd year of the ACA?
  2. A vote on over $1 million in potential health care costs and radical changes to the employment of 73 current school distict employees.

Many residents and employees probably picked answer number 1 and did not attend the school board meeting on February 3rd. But the school board picked number 2 and voted to implement major changes under an innocuous  agenda item. See full resolution here.

This action had some people reminiscing about the good old days when our state government gave itself a raise without notice in the wee hours of the night. Others harked back to Paul Olson giving escrow money back to St. David’s country club without any agenda item and over requests from the audience to table the motion.

Our government is based on an informed public. It does not matter if the resolution is a good decision or a bad decision. The public should demand that this not happen in the future. When major decisions are coming up for a vote, agenda items must accurately describe the action to be taken. Resolutions  should be available to the public before the meeting.

Citizens of the school district should contact their SB representatives. Tell your SB Representative your opinion and feelings about this issue.
