Drucker Responds to Kampf Voter ID Comments, Announces ID Helpline

In a town hall meeting Monday, Rep. Warren Kampf made the preposterous claim that the new PA Voter ID Law will help voters. “There isn’t a demonstrated situation where these laws have disenfranchised people. And, honestly, I’m beginning to feel that this law may actually enfranchise people,” declared Kampf.
Rep. Kampf’s claim is ridiculous and insulting. He owes an explanation and an apology to the voters of the 157th District. The current administration has admitted that it lacks evidence of voter fraud in Pennsylvania. Despite this fact, Kampf and his GOP colleagues voted for this legislation which robs citizens of their right to vote and costs taxpayers $12 million.
This law seriously impacts Kampf’s own constituents in the 157th District. According to PennDOT records, almost 13%, or 5,915, registered voters in the 157th, including approximately 1,898 seniors, are estimated to be without the identification necessary to vote in November. These are not the cheaters and scam artists that Rep. Kampf and his colleagues would like you to imagine; they are our parents, grandparents, and neighbors.
Rep. Kampf has turned his back on these voters who may not have the transportation or personal mobility to get the ID they need. He has stolen one of their fundamental rights as Americans for pure political gain. Trying to back peddle away from legislation Rep. Kampf openly supports by claiming it will enfranchise more voters is a pathetic attempt to cover the self-serving political motivation behind this law. Earlier this summer, Republican Leader Rep. Mike Turzai made it clear that the voter ID law is purely political. In a speech at the Republican State Committee Meeting, Turzai declared that the law will allow Mitt Romney to win Pennsylvania.
“I will not sit back and watch the voters of my district have their rights stolen. As the former Representative for the 157th, I always put the interests of my constituents first. As a candidate, and concerned citizen, I want to help people by assisting them in getting the identification they need. I am pleased to announce the launch of my Voter ID Helpline. Any voter in the district who needs ID to vote this November can call the helpline, and my staff and I, along with dedicated volunteers, will help them get the ID they need. I am offering to help all disenfranchised voters, regardless of political affiliation,” said Drucker.
In addition to launching the Helpline, the Drucker Campaign will directly contact voters in need of assistance by phone and mail. Drucker continued, “I have spent my life standing up for the rights of others as both an elected official and attorney. The right to vote is fundamental to our democracy. I choose to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Regardless of the outcome of this election, I can honestly say that my campaign stood up for the rights of the voters of the 157th and helped people.”
