Sandy Hook Remembrance

Sunday, Dec. 10, 3 p.m. 5th Anniversary Remembrance of the Tragedy at Sandy Hook Five years ago, on Dec. 14th, 20 young elementary school students and six staff members were murdered by gunfire. Since that time our nation’s gun regulations have become more permissive. This event is designed to help us reflect on the tragedy in Newtown, CT, the many tragedies that followed, and the toll gun violence takes in our society. Join us as we gather at The Melton Center to hear music, brief remarks of remembrance for those who have suffered and died as victims of gun violence, and short commentary on what we can do to achieve common sense gun regulation.

We will then process to the steps of the Old Courthouse (2 N. High St.), holding informative posters to raise awareness of the Anniversary and the toll gun violence is taking. We will make brief remarks at the Old Courthouse, including reading the names of the 26 Sandy Hook victims. The procession will cover about 1/2 mile. If you prefer, following the opening event, you may drive to the public parking garage on S. High Street, and then walk one block north to meet the group at the Old Courthouse. Parking: There is a lot on the Market St. side of the Melton Center. There is also street parking on E. Market Street, and in the neighborhood surrounding the Melton Center. The handicapped entrance may be accessed from the East Miner Street entrance. If you would like to park between the two locations, there may be parking available at the Salvation Army Thrift Store lot on E. Market between the Melton Center and the Old Courthouse.
